Steve LaTourette statement on the Supreme Court ruling on health care overhaul
Thursday, June 28, 2012
U.S. Rep. Steven C. LaTourette (OH-14) today released the
following statement on the Supreme Court's ruling on the
President's health care overhaul:
"The decision today should put to rest the notion that Chief
Justice Roberts is a partisan rubber stamp. Today's decision, while
disappointing, is an example of what the Founding Fathers
envisioned as three independent branches of government. Now that
the Supreme Court has ruled the bill is not unconstitutional, it is
for the nation's elected leadership to determine if it is good
policy," LaTourette said.
"I've always believed there were some good things within the
law, like covering pre-existing conditions and keeping your
children on your insurance up to age of 26. Now that the highest
court in the land has spoken, I still worry the law takes away from
the patient doctor relationship and puts more decisions in the
hands of bureaucrats. I remain concerned that the law lacks common
sense and does nothing to reduce cost for those who currently have
coverage and there are a whole slew of new taxes that are certainly
not good for hardworking taxpayers."
