Stow mourns loss of local soldier
The United States Army today announced the loss of Second
Lieutenant David E. Rylander, 23, of Stow, Ohio, who died on May 2,
2012, in Logar Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation
Enduring Freedom. According to initial reports, Second
Lieutenant Rylander died of injuries sustained when an improvised
explosive device detonated near his military vehicle.
"My sympathies go out to Second Lieutenant Rylander, his family,
friends, fellow soldiers and the community of Stow. This is a
horrible loss, and we all grieve for a brave and wonderful young
man who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country.
May God Bless him and may God Bless the United States of America
and all in harm's way," said U.S. Rep. Steven C. LaTourette
(OH-14).
Second Lieutenant Rylander was assigned to the 630th Engineer
Company, 7th Engineer Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade, 10th
Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York.
Second Lieutenant Rylander's parents live in Stow. The Army
extends heartfelt sympathy and condolences to his family and
friends who have suffered this loss and is committed to providing
full support for their needs.
