New online help for veterans seeking jobs
The Department of Veterans Affairs today announced that veterans
seeking jobs now have online access to data about their military
training and experience, information that will be helpful to
veterans seeking jobs and useful to employers who want to hire a
veteran.
"Savvy employers look to Veterans for the excellent
training and unique experiences they bring to the civilian
workforce," said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki.
"Now, Veterans can have state-of-the-art access to official data
about their military service that will help them land meaningful
jobs."
A system is now in place so veterans who visit www.myhealth.va.gov will be
able to obtain official records about their military service.
The information includes items from deployment information to
Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) codes, which identify work
performed and skills learned by a veteran during a tour of
duty. The ability to seek this additional information online
was launched on Dec. 3.
Veterans' military job information available online will depend
on the veteran's discharge or retirement date. Veterans who
have not signed up for an account on www.myhealth.va.gov
(also known as a My HealtheVet), will
need to visit a VA medical center or outpatient clinic to verify
their identity and register for an account. A list of Ohio VA
medical centers and clinics can be found here.
