LaTourette votes for debt ceiling increase

Monday, August 01, 2011

U.S. Rep. Steven C. LaTourette (R-OH) today released the following statement about House passage of the bill to cut spending and increase the debt ceiling.

"The overwhelming request by the people in NE Ohio who contacted me on this issue was that we work this problem out. National default was not an option, and finding the path forward was difficult," LaTourette said.

"Thanks to the dedication of President Obama, Speaker Boehner and Senator Reid, the legislation passed today avoids default. As important is the fact that the solution forces the government to cut spending, eliminate waste and place Washington on a path to a balanced budget."

The measure passed by a vote of 269-161 with LaTourette's support, and is now off to the Senate for consideration.
