Grant for Geneva Wetlands Preservation Effort

Wednesday, June 29, 2011

The grant is part of $930,000 awarded to protect, restore or enhance 791 acres of wetlands and wildlife habitat in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan and New York under the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI).

The natural history museum was awarded $61,250 for the Geneva Swamp Protection Project, which will protect 50 acres of high-quality wetlands about three miles south of Geneva State Park Lodge.  The wetlands in that area total about 400 acres, and are home to rare and endangered plants and animals. It also supports an exceptional diversity of breeding and migratory birds.
