Firefighter Grant Funding and Setting the Record Straight

Want the skinny on funds for firefighter grants?  Despite what some Senators say, the House did NOT cut funds for these popular grant programs.  Instead, an amendment I offered added $320 million for the grants program, bringing total funding to $670 million -- the same amount President Obama requested. 

The additional funds are paid for by trimming funding for several administrative accounts in Homeland Security.  The president of the International Association of Fire Fighters praised the LaTourette amendment, saying the "$335 million provided for each program will help save thousands of fire fighter jobs and fund the purchase of life-saving equipment and training."
