Transportation

Our national transportation infrastructure is the backbone of the American economy.   A safe and secure approach to best utilize a complex system of air, land, and sea modes of transportation remains the highest priority.  It is imperative that we focus on securing our rails, roadways, and airspace.

In the 112th Congress, I intend to work hard to pass multi-year authorizations for the FAA and Surface Transportation.

Earlier this year, the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, which I serve on, approved the FAA Reauthorization and Reform Act of 2011, a fiscally responsible, streamlining reauthorization of our nation’s aviation programs that improves our air transportation system for the good of the economy and helps create jobs.  This bill helps to ensure funding to modernize our air traffic control systems, known as NextGen.   This system will help reduce flight delays and overall air safety in both the General Aviation and Commercial Aviation industries.

Congress is currently working to craft a multi-year authorization bill that includes funding and policy for the federal highway, transit, and highway safety programs.  This much needed legislation will help to streamline the project delivery process, eliminate red tape, establish innovative financing options, and most importantly create jobs in Pennsylvania.
