Government and Oversight

One of my goals in Congress is to expose and cut out waste, fraud and abuse in the federal government. A unique responsibility given to the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, of which I am a member, is the task of actively investigating and effectively overseeing all areas of the federal government.

During the 112th Congress this Committee will be focusing its efforts not only on transparency and holding government accountable but also on eliminating regulations that are currently hindering job creation. Nothing is more important than bringing jobs back to our district and also ensuring that we do not lose the jobs we presently have. We are actively collecting input from businesses in across the country regarding federal regulatory impediments to job creation. Please go to www.americanjobcreators.com if you would like to submit a summary of any issues your business perceives to be impeding economic growth.

I am a member of two Subcommittees on the Oversight and Government Reform Committee—the Subcommittee on TARP, Financial Services and Bailouts of Public and Private Programs and the Subcommittee on Technology, Information Policy, Intergovernmental Relations and Procurement Reform.  The jurisdiction of these two Subcommittees allows me to take a particular interest in ensuring that federal tax dollars have not been misused in federal financial services programs such as the Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP). Additionally my Subcommittee has been investigating unfunded mandates passed on to states and local municipal governments. At the full committee level we are holding hearings to examine burdensome regulatory policies.
