Supreme Court Upholds President's Health Care Law

On the morning of June 28, 2012, the United States Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act in a ruling that establishes a dangerous precedent that the federal government has unlimited ability to punish the behavior of its citizens by levying taxes against them.

Representative Foxx is committed to a full repeal of Obamacare so that an honest health care reform conversation can begin - with the American people, not Washington, leading the discussion. 

Representative Foxx voted against Obamacare when it came before the House in 2010, and has voted 30 times since to repeal, defund, and dismantle portions of the law.

Democrats flagrantly ignored the will of the American people when they crammed through their partisan government takeover of health care.  Their plan does not address the rising cost of health care.  It was forced through with shady backroom deals and empty promises; and it will severely damage the accessibility, affordability, and quality of health care in this nation.  However, this debate is far from over.  I’m dedicated to fighting for patient-centered reforms while repealing the Democrats’ disastrous tax hikes, job-killing mandates, and reckless cuts to Medicare that will be a fiscal disaster for our nation and harm our freedoms.

It is clear that Americans reject this legislation that gives Washington bureaucrats and politicians executive power over personal health care decisions while providing for taxpayer-funded elective abortion.  If there's one thing this new law is designed to do, it's to grow the power of government.  The simple truth is that the Democrats’ plan is one that answers to the needs of the government and not to the needs of individuals.

I will continue to listen to the people of North Carolina.  This begins by repealing the Democrats’ government takeover of health care and replacing it with better, workable solutions.  We will immediately work to repeal the $570 billion in tax hikes, $523 billion in Medicare cuts that take choice away from seniors, costly mandates, and work to enact positive reforms that do not rely on budgetary gimmicks or more government intrusion.  This government takeover of health care is not what Americans asked for and certainly not what they can afford.

Democrats’ Government Takeover of Health--Now Current Law:

After Democrats in the House had several committee mark-ups on H.R. 3200,  the America's Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi scrapped that bill and unveiled a brand new 1990-page government health care takeover plan -- H.R. 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act on October 29, 2009.  On February 22, 2010, the President released an 11-page summary of his health care proposal in advance of the “bipartisan” health care summit later that week.  However, the White House had not revealed legislative text and no Congressional Budget Office score was available.

On Sunday, March 21, 2010, the House Democrats passed the Senate health care "reform" bill -- H.R. 3590, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act by a vote of 219–212 and H.R. 4872, the Reconciliation Package by 220–211.  On March 23, 2010, the President signed H.R. 3590 into law followed by the Reconciliation Package on March 30, 2010.
