Three fire departments get grants

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

U.S. Rep. Steven C. LaTourette (R-Bainbridge Township) today announced that the Conneaut, Macedonia and Stow fire departments will receive federal grants.

Conneaut will receive $23,750 to purchase a cardiac monitor, Macedonia will receive $18,505 to purchase self-contained breathing apparatus brackets and reflective striping for fire vehicles and Stow will receive $33,930 for operations and safety.

The grants are through the popular Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program that helps departments obtain needed equipment and training.   There were more than 16,000 requests for funding, and $390 million in grants will be awarded this year with Fiscal Year 2010 funding.

"In these tough economic times, these grants really help local departments," LaTourette said.  "It's a really competitive grant program, and I'm thrilled that three departments in my district were chosen for funding."
