Wednesday, August 03, 2011
U.S. Rep. Steven C. LaTourette (R-OH) today announced that a
traveling Smithsonian program -- "New Harmonies: Celebrating
American Roots Music" -- will open on August 10 at the Kent State
University Campus in Burton.
The exhibit is part of the Smithsonian Institution's Museum on
Main Street, a traveling exhibition program. It will be at the KSU
campus at 14111 Claridon Troy Road, Burton, from August 10 to
September 2. Hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through
Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
New Harmonies will tell the story of American Roots Music
through photos, instruments, lyrics and artist profiles, and will
feature the work of B.B. King, Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie and
others.
"You'll get a little bit of everything from zydeco to gospel,
plus country, bluegrass and the blues," said LaTourette, a member
of the Smithsonian Board of Regents. "It's an honor to have
this exhibition in NE Ohio and I hope many will stop by to see the
amazing work done by the Smithsonian."
The Smithsonian Museum on Main Street program has brought
exhibitions to more than 500 communities over the last 12
years. New Harmonies is co-sponsored by the Ohio Humanities
Council.
New Harmonies at KSU Geauga is free and open to the public.
