COPS Hiring Grant Deadline is Tomorrow

Tuesday, May 24, 2011

U.S. Rep. Steven C. LaTourette (R-Bainbridge Township) is urging law enforcement agencies in NE Ohio to submit applications for grant funding under the COPS Hiring program.

COPS Hiring Program (CHP) applications must be completed and submitted on-line by 8:59 p.m. tomorrow -- May 25, 2011.  The Secure Our Schools Grant Program priority consideration deadline is the same time.  Agencies may contact the COPS Office Response Center for application assistance at 800-421-6770, and staff will be available to answer applicant questions until 7 p.m. tonight, and up until the deadline Wednesday night.

The COPS Office expects to announce CHP funding decisions by September 30, 2011, and all awards are subject to the availability of funding.  LaTourette said $200 million will be available for CHP in FY 2011 for the hiring and rehiring of additional career law enforcement officers.

Applications for this program must be submitted in two parts -- online via www.grants.gov to complete the SF-424, which is standard form required for competitive grant applications within the federal government. After the SF-424 has been submitted, an applicant will receive an e-mail from the COPS Office with instructions on completing the second part of the CHP application through the COPS Office Online Application System found on the COPS Office website. Additional materials about COPS Hiring grants can be found here.

In addition, $13 million will be available under the  COPS Secure Our Schools (SOS) 2011 grant program.  The funding can be used by law enforcement agencies to help with school security, and the program will fund up to 50% of the total cost to implement safety measures like metal detectors, locks and lighting, as well as anti-violence initiatives.  The first application deadline for priority consideration will be tomorrow, May 25, at 8:59 p.m. The second and final deadline for all applications will be June 8, 2011.
