Elementary and Secondary Education
As the husband of a teacher and the father of two teachers, Rep. Barletta recognizes the vital challenges teachers face in educating today’s youth.

Rep. Barletta is a member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education. He has a unique opportunity to stand at the forefront of education reform.

In today’s increasingly global economy, American students need the skills necessary to succeed. This might be one of the greatest challenges in Congress; to support state and local governments in providing a quality, well-rounded education to all our nation’s students.

Currently, he is working with his colleagues to advance a series of education reform proposals to reauthorize and improve the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), more commonly known as No Child Left Behind (NCLB). These proposals center on eliminating inefficient federal education programs; providing states and school districts more flexibility in the use of federal funds; empowering parents; supporting effective teachers; and reforming the law’s outdated accountability system.

Rep. Barletta supports the Student Success Act, which would revamp the outdated federal accountability system (Adequate Yearly Progress, or AYP) and require states to instead develop and implement unique systems that better address the needs of local students, schools, and communities.

Higher Education
After years of tough economic times, it is clear we need smart solutions to get our economy moving again and people back to work. As amember of the Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Training, Rep. Barletta recognizes that institutions of higher learning are critical to our nation’s economic recovery. They help ensure that students and workers have the tools they need to succeed in the workplace.

In order to grow and support institutions of higher learning, Rep. Barletta is committed to reducing federal overreach in higher education and promoting increased transparency to protect students and taxpayers.
