Jobs

From his first day in office, Rep. Barletta has been focused on getting Americans back to work. Northeastern Pennsylvania’s local unemployment rate has remained higher than state and national averages for far too long.

Rep. Barletta has taken steps to ensure that Americans get jobs. He has voted for three dozen major jobs bills that would be able to create jobs across Northeastern Pennsylvania and the United States. Rep. Barletta believes the key to job creation and economic recovery is found in small, private businesses.

After starting a small business on a $29.95 investment and growing it into the sixth-largest business of its kind in the nation, Rep. Barletta understands the importance of policies that will encourage businesses to hire employees.

Raising taxes on small businesses will only weaken our job-creating environment. For example, raising taxes on business owners who make more than $250,000 is bad because that’s a very low ceiling for a small business owner who pays taxes as a “Subchapter S corporation” (In general, an S corporation's income or losses are divided among and passed through to shareholders. The shareholders must then report the income or loss on their own individual income tax returns and are assessed tax at their individual income tax rates).
