On February 2, 2012, Attorney General Eric Holder testified before the House Oversight Committee on Operation Fast & Furious. For months, the Department blamed the botched gun investigation on the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) – notwithstanding the fact that they are both components of the Department of Justice. In fact, Main Justice had much greater knowledge of, and involvement in, Fast and Furious than it has previously acknowledged. Oversight Watchdogs held Attorney General Holder accountable.
