  2. On the 71st anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor we honor the heroes who lost their lives on that fateful day. Today we’re provided a solemn opportunity to reflect upon their heroism and commitment to this great nation. On this day of remembrance, let us also offer thankful prayers for the brave men and women in uniform who stand guard today.
  3. The EPA today approved Florida’s numeric nutrient criteria standards for water quality. Florida should come first when setting water quality standards in our state. That said, the EPA’s decision to issue new proposed federal rules reminds us of the need to remain vigilant of the impact that more Washington regulation would have on Florida agriculture, small businesses, and hardworking families.

On behalf of the entire Southerland Family, have a Happy Thanksgiving!

  8. Honored to attend the Organizational Session of the Florida House of Representatives. Congrats not only to the new and returning members, but also to Speaker Will Weatherford and Senate President Don Gaetz on their unanimous selections to preside over the Florida House and Senate, respectively.
  9. You’ve undoubtedly heard a lot of talk in the news lately about the impending “Fiscal Cliff.” How will your family be impacted? This graph complied the by the Tax Policy Center and ABC News gives a clear understanding.
  10. Privileged to attend the Commission Reorganization ceremony at Tallahassee City Hall today. Congrats to Mr. Andrew Gillum and Mr. Scott Maddox on their elections, and to Ms. Nancy Miller on her election as Mayor Pro Tem.

  12. Washington is racing towards the fiscal cliff and Senate Democrats appear unwilling to pass a constitutionally-mandated budget for the fourth straight year.
  13. Washington’s spending problem continues. The federal government starts FY 2013 budget year with a 22% higher deficit than last year. The federal government is using an unbalanced checkbook at a time when hardworking American families are struggling to keep their fiscal house in order. It’s time for Washington to do the same.
  14. The National Federation of Independent Business released its monthly survey this week showing that uncertainty is growing among small businesses. The survey showed that a record high, 23 percent, of small business owners are uncertain about improving business conditions over the next 6 months.
