Altmire Secures $300,000 for Ross Township Police Department
(Washington, DC) - U.S. Representative Jason Altmire (PA-4) announced today that he has secured $300,000 for the Ross Township Police Department to upgrade its communications system. The funding was included in the Commerce-Justice-Science appropriations bill for FY 2008 (H.R.3093) which passed Thursday in the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 281 to 142. H.R. 3093 must be approved by the U.S. Senate and the President of the United States before it becomes final and the funding is made available to the recipient, the Ross Township Police Department.
"This is great news for Ross Township," said Congressman Altmire. "This funding represents a critical investment in the safety of the community by improving communications between the police department and officers in the field. I will continue to work with our local first responders to ensure that they have the resources they need to better serve our communities and to address the challenges and threats they face each day."
The $300,000 will be used to purchase communications equipment to link the records management system at the Ross Township police station and the Mobile Computer Terminals in each of the department's patrol cars. The current system requires police officers to return to the police station in order to complete their reports and to obtain important intelligence information.
"We are grateful for Congressman Altmire's advocacy on behalf of our police and our community," said Pete Ferraro, Ross Township Police Commissioner. "This funding will help our department purchase technologies that will make our officers more efficient and more effective, allowing them to spend more time where we need them most: in the community and patrolling our neighborhoods."
