Altmire: Today's Budget Proposal Nothing More than a Gimmick PDF Print E-mail

March 29, 2012

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Jason Altmire (PA-04) today released the following statement on House consideration of the Fiscal Year 2013 federal budget.

Congressman Altmire said:

"For the second year in a row, I have taken a stand against all attempts to use seniors' benefits to pay down our national debt. There's no hiding from the fiscal issues facing our country, but placing the burden of paying down the debt on seniors and veterans is irresponsible. Medicare and Social Security did not create the unsustainable fiscal path we are on, and we should not be turning to these programs to balance the budget. I'm ready to make the tough choices to bring our debt down to a sustainable level, but today's budget proposal was nothing more than a gimmick."
