WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Jason Altmire (PA-04) today issued the following statement on the budget proposal released by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (WI-01).
Congressman Altmire said:
"The budget proposal released today is another attempt to slash seniors' benefits under the guise of deficit reduction. Our fiscal problems are real, and the solutions to fix them should not be tailored to meet the demands of extreme ideologies in one political party. I will not let the seniors and veterans of western Pennsylvania pay the price for decades of out-of-control spending in Washington.
"It is time to get serious about developing a budget proposal that cuts spending while preserving the programs that our seniors and veterans have earned through hard work and sacrifice. This kind of proposal will require give and take from everyone, but I'm confident that if we put our differences aside, the House can come together to make the changes necessary to get this country back on solid fiscal ground."
