February 28, 2012
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Jason Altmire (PA-04) today announced $363,879 in grants for the Taylor Township Volunteer Fire Department in Lawrence County, the Sardis Volunteer Fire Company in Westmoreland County, and Richland Township Volunteer Fire Department in Allegheny County. The funds are being awarded under the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG).
"The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program makes critical investments in our local volunteer fire departments so that they are adequately prepared to respond," Congressman Altmire said. "These three awards will help to ensure that our firefighters have the resources they need to provide first-class response when an emergency happens. I congratulate them on this award and look forward to seeing their new equipment in the field."
This award announcement includes:
$269,556 for the Taylor Township Volunteer Fire Department to purchase a new fire engine;
$48,780 for the Sardis Volunteer Fire Company to purchase new fire hoses; and
$45,543 for the Richland Township Volunteer Fire Department to replace a 20 year old station breathing compressor to provide breathing air to firefighters operating the station's 100 foot ladder tower.
