WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Jason Altmire (PA-04), along with Fox Chapel Area High School students, will host local veterans as part of the Library of Congress' (LOC) Veterans History Project. Each year, Congressman Altmire partners with local students to collect personal accounts of American war veterans and makes these interviews part of the permanent collection at the American Folklife Center at the LOC.
"The Veterans History Project gives our servicemen and women the opportunity to share their stories of their service to our country in a way that no one else can," Congressman Altmire said. "The first-hand interviews of America's heroes will be preserved so future generations can understand the sacrifice and commitment they make to our country. We welcome any veteran who is interested to participate in this project to join us to tell their story."

The Veterans History Project was created by Congress in 2000. It is the largest oral history program in United States history and collects first-person accounts of military service in World War I; World War II; the wars in Korea, Vietnam, and the Persian Gulf; the current conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq; and during peacetime.
Since taking office in 2007, Congressman Altmire has been a leading voice for veterans issues. To date, nine of his legislative initiatives to help veterans, reservists, and military families have become law, including legislation to modernize the American Legion charter, ensure quality prosthetics and care to wounded veterans, and he authored the first-ever expansion of the Family Medical Leave Act which benefits military families.
