WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Jason Altmire (PA-04) released the following statement on the announcement from Congresswoman Gabby Giffords that she will step down from Congress this week.
Congressman Altmire said:
"Although I am saddened that Congresswoman Giffords is stepping down, I am certain that she believes this decision is what is best for her, her family and her beloved Arizona.
"As a fellow member of the congressional class of 2006, I have known Gabby to be a smart, determined leader of the highest integrity. She is an inspiration to me and all of America.
"Although she will no longer be in Congress, I have no doubt that Gabby will continue to make a difference. I join all Americans in thanking Gabby for her service, and in wishing the best for her and Mark as they enter this next phase of their lives together."
