WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Jason Altmire (PA-04) today announced a grant for the North Hampton Volunteer Fire Department (NHVFD) and Hampton Volunteer Fire Department (HVFD) in Allegheny County. The grant, totaling $92,293, is being awarded under the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program. The funds will be used to replace obsolete and unreliable radios currently owned by NHVFD and HVFD.
"This grant will enable both fire departments to communicate more quickly and effectively with other first responders in our area. The updated technology will allow them to provide better fire protection to over 18,000 residents, as well as critical infrastructure, such as I-76, and several high occupancy buildings, including schools, and nursing facilities." Congressman Altmire said. "I congratulate NHVFD and HVFD on receiving this award and look forward to working with them to further ensure that the resources they need are available."
The AFG program helps firefighters and first responders purchase equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards. Pennsylvania was awarded over $590,000 in grants during the most recent round of Fiscal Year 2011 AFG awards. For more information on the AFG program, please click here.
Last week, Congressman Altmire announced a similar grant for the Logans Ferry Heights Volunteer Fire Department. To view more information on that award, please click here.
