Altmire Issues Statement on Proposal to Extend Payroll Tax Cut PDF Print E-mail

December 22, 2011

WASHINGTON - U.S. Congressman Jason Altmire (PA-04) issued the following statement on the proposal to extend the payroll tax cuts for two months.

"Like many Americans, I'm glad that partisan politics have been put aside in order to guarantee that payroll taxes for workers across the country won't increase on January 1st," Congressman Altmire said. "I have said that a two month extension of this tax break was never the endgame, however it is a placeholder to protect Americans from seeing their paychecks go down while we negotiate a long-term extension. When Congress returns in January, our first priority should be to extend this tax cut for the remainder of the year, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure that is done right away."
