Altmire: Congress Must Lead By Example and Pass a Balanced Budget Amendment
November 18, 2011
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Jason Altmire (PA-04) today issued the following statement on the vote to pass a Balanced Budget Amendment (BBA) to the Constitution. Congressman Altmire was a co-sponsor of the legislation and spoke in favor of the amendment on the House floor yesterday.
Congressman Altmire said:
"Every family and every business in America has to balance their expenses and income, so it makes sense that the federal government would do the same. If previous efforts to pass a balanced budget amendment were successful, the nation's federal debt would not have been able to reach the unsustainable levels we face today. It is time to get serious about addressing our financial problems and this amendment is one of many steps we need to take to get America back on fiscally solid ground. The American people are counting on us. There is no time to spare."
