October 25, 2011

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Jason Altmire (PA-04) today announced that the Borough of West View will receive a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) to hire a new police officer. The grant for West View, totaling $224,922, was one of only five awarded in Pennsylvania.

"This is exciting news for the West View Police Department," Congressman Altmire said. "Being able to put highly-trained officers in the field to protect our neighborhoods is one of the best investments we can make in our communities. This is a highly competitive grant program, and I am committed to working with our local law enforcement officials to make our streets safer in western Pennsylvania."

The "COPS Hiring Program" provides funding to hire police officers dedicated to addressing specific crime and disorder challenges confronting communities. This grant will provide 100 percent funding for the entry-level salaries and benefits of a newly-hired or rehired full-time officer for three years. The Fiscal Year (FY) 2011 Continuing Appropriations Act provided $243 million in funding for this grant program. For more information on the "2011 COPS Hiring Program," please click here.
