Altmire Votes for Additional Cuts in Federal Government Spending
September 23, 2011
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Jason Altmire (PA-04) today voted for a bill to fund federal government operations through November 18, 2011. The bill, H.R. 2608, cuts an additional 1.5 percent, or $7 billion, in federal government spending from the already historic cuts made in the continuing resolution that was signed into law in April.
"The most immediate way we can address the fiscal challenges before us is to reduce the amount of money the federal government spends," Congressman Altmire said. "Wasteful and irresponsible spending is a drag on our economy and is severely slowing down our recovery. This debate is not about offsets. A government shutdown would be devastating to our already fragile economy, and it is important that we not get caught up in these types of political games. I will continue to work with my colleagues to find areas where we can cut costs like this bill does, reduce government regulations and create the jobs this country needs to get moving again."
The continuing resolution passed on a bipartisan basis by a vote of 219-203.
