Altmire Votes to Address Long-Term Deficit Issues PDF Print E-mail

 July 30, 2011

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Jason Altmire today made the following comment after the U.S. House of Representatives voted on a long-term proposal by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) to address the national deficit and significantly cut federal spending.

Congressman Altmire Said:

"Of all the plans that have been presented before us, the Senate Majority Leader's plan is the only one that offers the certainty our financial markets and the American people need. The full faith and credit of the United States is on the line, and I'm not willing to gamble that on any short-term deal. Compared to previous plans the House has voted on, Senator Reid's plan makes deeper cuts and puts us on a path to addressing our national deficit, while protecting Social Security, Medicare and ensuring veterans receive their benefits. I strongly urge my colleagues to come together to develop a plan the House and Senate can agree to with this plan as a foundation."
