Altmire: Over $44 Million Coming to Pennsylvania to Help Families Cover Rising Home Heating Bills PDF Print E-mail

(Washington, DC) - U.S. Congressman Jason Altmire (PA-4) today welcomed the Bush Administration's release of more than $44 million in energy assistance to help Pennsylvania seniors and working families pay their home heating bills this winter. More than $450 million in home energy assistance nationwide was made available today.

"I am glad that the Bush Administration has released these funds to help Pennsylvania seniors and working families pay their heating bills this winter," Altmire said. "I have repeatedly heard from local families whose wallets are being drained by high home energy costs. This money is absolutely crucial to ensuring western Pennsylvanians are not left out in the cold because they cannot cover their home heating bills."

"I hope that as the year progresses, we will be able to continue working together in a bipartisan manner to address rising home energy costs and increase America's energy security," Altmire continued.

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates that this winter, households can expect to pay between 10 to 22 percent more for heating fuels than they did during the 2006 - 2007 winter. As a member of the House Education and Labor Committee, Congressman Altmire has consistently championed efforts to secure LIHEAP funding for western Pennsylvania families. The 110th Congress included $2.6 billion in LIHEAP funding in their recently enacted final budget bill - a $400 million increase over last year.
