Two Beaver County Police Departments Receive Funding From Economic Recovery Package
July 29, 2009
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) -- U.S. Congressman Jason Altmire (PA-04) today announced that Aliquippa is receiving $133,008 and Beaver Falls is receiving $167,625 in federal funding to cover costs of employing a police officer for three years. This funding was made available by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, an economic recovery package that was signed into law in February and supported by Congressman Altmire.
“One of the many reasons I voted for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is that I knew this legislation would help our local police departments,” Altmire said. “Police Departments in Beaver County and across the country have been hit hard by this economic recession. This federal funding will help Aliquippa and Beaver Falls police continue working to prevent crime and keep local families safe.”
The funding Aliquippa and Beaver Falls are receiving will cover 100 percent of an entry level officer’s approved salary and benefits costs for three years.
This funding is part of more than $1 billion in law enforcement grants that were announced today. Nationwide, this money will fund the hiring and continued employment of nearly 4,700 law enforcement officers.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is an economic recovery package that is helping to revive America’s economy by cutting taxes and creating jobs through investments in infrastructure, education, law enforcement, and other initiatives vital to America’s long-term growth.
