(PITTSBURGH, PA) -- On Monday, May 11, U.S. Congressman Jason Altmire (PA-04) is inviting local veterans to tell their stories of service to our country as part of the Veterans History Project. Veterans can make an appointment to come to North Allegheny Senior High School -- located at 10375 Perry Highway in Wexford, PA -- between 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Monday, May 11 to tape an on-camera interview about their military service. Each interview will be submitted to the Library of Congress and will become a part of its permanent collection.
“Veterans across western Pennsylvania all have unique stories of service to their country, and I want to make sure those stories are heard,” Altmire said. “Each of the interviews we tape with local veterans will be submitted to the Library of Congress so future generations can learn about the sacrifices that veterans made to protect our nation. I encourage any veteran who is interested in participating in the Veterans History Project to contact my office.”
North Allegheny High School students will interview each veteran individually for 30 to 45 minutes. Veterans who would like to be interviewed should contact Jennifer Rapach in Congressman Altmire’s office by calling 724-378-0928 or emailing

by May 7, 2009 to schedule their interviews.
This will be the third Veterans History Project taping that Congressman Altmire has sponsored for western Pennsylvania veterans. The Veterans History Project is the largest oral history program in United States history and collects first-person accounts of military service in World War I; World War II; the wars in Korea, Vietnam, and the Persian Gulf; and the current conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Altmire is a strong advocate for America’s veterans. To date, six different legislative initiatives Altmire introduced to help veterans and military families have been signed into law. Altmire’s laws will guarantee our wounded warriors receive their full enlistment bonuses, help veterans successfully start and run small businesses, improve treatment for traumatic brain injuries, extend the Family Medical Leave Act to help military families deal with issues arising from deployment, and more.
