Washington D.C. – Congressman Kevin McCarthy released the following statement following a meeting of the Republican Conference regarding proposed legislation on the debt ceiling within the principles of Cut, Cap & Balance. 

"House Republicans will move forward with legislation consistent with the principles of Cut, Cap and Balance – principles which are supported by a large majority of Americans as a responsible approach. This legislation would require a vote on the Balanced Budget Amendment, which is an important component in preventing future deficit spending like we have seen over the past three years under the Democrats' control of Washington. The American people sent us to Washington to find solutions, however, the President has shown that he is much more concerned with politics. I urge my Democrat colleagues in the House and Senate to join with Republicans in putting people before politics."
