Washington D.C. – At the GOP Leadership stakeout, Congressman Kevin McCarthy discussed the Continuing Resolution being considered on the House floor today, and the need to inject certainty into our economy so we can start growing the private sector and creating jobs. "That's the frustration you feel here in the House: that we want to see this done, we want to move on to the next budget. Because this is about more than just the fiscal responsibility. This is about creating jobs, and this is about building the American dream."

As the Speaker stated, 'why are we here?' The Democrats had the majority, they had all three houses. Even having the majority they still couldn't pass a budget, so the government was only funded until March 4th.

Well, we staked out, we had an open process like we said we would, and you know what, even Rep. Weiner won an amendment. That's how open it was. We sent that over to the Senate; they could not take it up.

So what did we end up with? Instead of shutting down the government we proposed a two-week [CR], a two-week one that cut $2 billion a week, the same number as the full one. What did the Democrats do? More Democrats voted with us than against us. Even their own leadership split.

While the President in the State of the Union said, we should freeze spending. Well, that's not where his own Democrats are. We found Democrats in the Senate, they took up the bill and the Republican bill got more votes than the Democrat bill on the Senate side.

Now, what is the frustration today? After that vote the President calls and sends the Vice President down. The Vice President has one meeting and leaves the country when the government's only funded for two weeks.

We have done our job. We have sent it forward. The Majority party in the Senate, the Democrats and the President have to show some leadership. The American public wants some leadership.

You can't negotiate with yourself. That's the frustration you feel here in the House: that we want to see this done, we want to move on to the next budget. Because this is about more than just the fiscal responsibility. This is about creating jobs, and this is about building the American dream.
