Perlmutter Urges Vote on Middle Class Tax Cuts

"We can't wait... Americans want certainty and action now."

Washington, DC -- Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) urged Washington Republicans to put politics aside and vote to extend middle class tax cuts to avoid the automatic tax increases (fiscal cliff) for hardworking people in Colorado.

Perlmutter joined at least 59 colleagues in the House in signing onto a discharge petition by Rep. Tim Walz to promptly bring a Senate-passed middle-class tax cut plan to a vote in the House.

"The best holiday gift Congress can give the majority of Americans is the certainty their taxes won’t go up next year.  We can't wait any longer.  Democrats and Republicans agree on extending tax cuts for the middle class, and we need to stop the partisan brinkmanship, and pass these responsible tax cuts," Perlmutter said.  "Americans want certainty and action now. The Senate passed the bill.  The President will sign the bill.  Let's get to work."

Extending the middle class tax cuts will cut taxes for every American on the first $250,000 of income.  The measure fixes the Alternative Minimum Tax and extends the child tax credit.
