U.S. Rep. Brad Miller Urges Passage of the Janey Ensminger Act

Documentary debuts on MSNBC tonight

Tonight, Semper Fi: Always Faithful, the documentary about one of the largest water contamination cover-ups in history at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, will make its television premiere on MSNBC at 10 P.M. EST.

The film is based on the life of former Marine Master Sergeant Jerry Ensminger who has made it his life's work to investigate the cause of his daughter's death at Camp Lejeune. In addition, the film features some of the Congressman's legislative and investigative work on the toxic water at Camp Lejeune.

Rep. Miller introduced the Janey Ensminger Act in the House with U.S. Rep. John Dingell. The bill would require the Department of Veterans Affairs to provide health care to veterans and their family members who have experienced adverse health effects as a result of exposure to contaminated well water at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

"If not for the relentless efforts of Jerry Ensminger and others, we would still not know the extent of the drinking water contamination at Camp Lejeune or what exposure to the water has done to Marines and their families." Rep. Miller said. "People exposed to the water would think they were just incredibly unlucky to have developed the rare cancers we now know can be caused by exposure to the toxic chemicals in the water."

The Congressman remains hopeful that the Janey Ensminger Act will be brought before the House for a vote. Currently, the legislation is pending in the House Veterans Affairs Committee. Similar legislation has passed out of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee.
