Barrow Thanks All First Responders for Bravery, Sacrifice in Fighting the 2007 Wildfires PDF Print

Glennville, GA - Today, 12th District Georgia Congressman John Barrow (D-Savannah) attended an appreciation cookout for the First Responders who volunteered to fight the southern Georgia and northern Florida wildfires this spring.  Firefighters, representatives from the Georgia Forestry Commission, Red Cross, law enforcement, DNR, and other volunteers attended the cookout, held at Mr. Wayne Dasher's home.

"The 2007 wildfires were the worst fires we've seen in this area in a generation.  Thanks to the thousands of people from across this country and Canada who volunteered their time to fight those fires, there were no lives lost," said Rep. Barrow.  "We owe a debt of gratitude to them and their families.  They're American heroes."

The 2007 Wildfires that began in mid-April burned approximately 564,000 acres in southern Georgia and northern Florida.  Fire suppression efforts cost an estimated $44.1 million.
