Barrow Makes Statement on Failed SCHIP Veto-Override PDF Print

Washington, DC - 12th District Georgia Congressman John Barrow (D-Savannah) issued the following statement this afternoon after the House of Representatives failed to overturn President Bush's veto of the Children's Health Insurance Program legislation:

"I'm disappointed that the House failed to overturn President Bush's veto, but I want to emphasize the positive: Forty-four Republicans - almost one out of every four Republicans in the House - joined 229 Democrats to show overwhelming bipartisan support for this legislation.  I'm committed to working with my colleagues - on both sides of the aisle - until we get the votes we need to pass this legislation.  There are 161,000 children in Georgia who are depending on us to put aside our differences and help them get the health care coverage they deserve, and I won't stop until we get the job done."
