Washington, DC - Congressman John Barrow announced today that Chatham County will gain $10.2 million in new federal funding under the 2008 Omnibus Appropriations Bill.  The bill, which passed the House yesterday on a 272-142 vote, included funding Barrow requested for the following projects:

Savannah Air National Guard Combat Readiness Training Center - $9,000,000

St. Joseph's Hospital - $268,000

Chatham County Emergency Management - $200,000

Massie Heritage Center - $243,000

Ralph M. Gilbert Civil Rights Museum - $48,000

Chatham Area Transit Authority - $400,000

Earlier this year, Congress passed the Department of Defense Appropriations that included the following funding requests made by Congressman Barrow:

Advanced Bio-Engineering for Enhancement of Soldier Survivability (Georgia Tech/Emory Center/Memorial Health University Hospital) - $1,600,000

The Obesity and Cancer Program (Walter Reed Army Medical Center/The Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute of Memorial Health University Hospital) - $1,600,000

"This funding is an investment in the future of Chatham County," Barrow said.  "This money will go to support the men and women who serve our country, enhance our safety in times of emergency, improve our transportation infrastructure, and improve the health of Chatham County residents."

The House of Representatives passed the Omnibus Appropriations bill on Wednesday evening, and the President is expected to sign it today.
