Barrow Announces Committee Assignments for the 112th Congress PDF Print

Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) today announced that he will continue to serve on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce and has also been elected to the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs in the 112th Congress.

“These committee assignments will allow me to continue tackling issues important to the folks in Georgia’s 12th Congressional District,” said Congressman Barrow.  “I look forward to working with members of both parties to strengthen our economy, create new jobs, and address the other challenges facing our communities.”

This will be Barrow’s third term as a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.  He will sit on the committee’s Subcommittee on Environment and the Economy, and on the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology.

Barrow will sit on the Veterans’ Affairs Committee’s Subcommittee on Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs, and on the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.

House Committee on Energy and Commerce

The Committee on Energy and Commerce is the oldest standing legislative committee in the U.S. House of Representatives.  It is vested with the broadest jurisdiction of any congressional authorizing committee. Today it has responsibility for the nation's telecommunications, consumer protection, food and drug safety, public health research, environmental quality, the availability of affordable energy, and the continuance of interstate and foreign commerce.  It oversees multiple cabinet-level departments and independent agencies, including the departments of Energy, Health and Human Services, and Transportation, as well as the Federal Trade Commission, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Federal Communications Commission.

House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs

The House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs reviews veterans’ programs, examines current laws, and reports bills and amendments to strengthen existing laws concerning veterans and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).  It covers veterans’ issues relating to health care, disability compensation, GI Bill education and job training, home loan guarantees, life insurance policies, and a nationwide system of veterans’ cemeteries.
