BARROW LEADS LETTER TO KEY CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEE ASKING FOR FTC BRIEFING OF GOOGLE PDF Print

Washington, D.C.Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) led a bipartisan letter signed by Republican and Democratic Members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee that asks Chairman Waxman to have the FTC answer questions related to Google in a briefing before the Committee.

This effort follows on recent press reports that the FTC appears to be mounting an antitrust case to block or impose conditions on Google’s acquisition of AdMob.  Barrow referenced an April 6, 2010, letter written by Senator Herb Kohl to FTC Chairman Leibowitz in which Senator Kohl urges the Commission to review the transaction “carefully and with close scrutiny.”

Barrow, along with the other signatories of the letter, says that the need for careful review is particularly pressing given Google’s dominant position in search advertising, including mobile search advertising, and its growing dominance over other forms of online advertising.

“Given the huge economic potential of the mobile Internet and the important role that mobile advertising will play in its growth,” said Barrow, “we believe these issues merit serious attention.”
