Barrow Statement on Afghanistan PDF Print

Washington, D.C. - Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) released the following statement today:

"We don't have all of the details on President Obama's plans for Afghanistan, but what we've heard so far is encouraging.  I was just there last week, and here's what I learned: The troops over there believe they have a job to do, and we need to give them what they need to get the job done.  That means more boots on the ground to help them out as soon as possible.  We can't be over there forever, and with the right strategy we won't have to be.  I'm going to do my best to make sure that the men and women we send over there have all of the resources they need while they're there, and then get them home as soon as possible."

Congressman Barrow just completed a five-day trip to Afghanistan and Pakistan.  While in the region, he was able to have Thanksgiving dinner with members of the 48th Brigade of the Georgia National Guard.  He also met with senior American military personnel, including General Stanley McChrystal, and with America's senior diplomatic representatives Karl Eikenberry, Ambassador to Afghanistan, and Anne Patterson, Ambassador to Pakistan, and their military and intelligence staffs.  Also on the trip were Georgia Senator Saxby Chambliss and Congressmen Tom Price and Lynn Westmoreland.
