Barrow, Blue Dogs Join Obama to Advance Statutory PAYGO PDF Print

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman John Barrow (GA-12), along with other members of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition, stood in strong support of President Obama as he urged members of both the House and Senate to pass legislation that requires any new mandatory government spending be matched with budget cuts or savings elsewhere.

In a press conference with the members of Coalition, the President announced the official transmission of legislation that would reinstitute statutory pay-as-you-go (PAYGO) rules, a move long advocated by the Blue Dogs as a way to restore much-needed fiscal discipline to the federal government.

"This is the only way we can make sure that our kids and grandkids aren't paying for what we're trying to accomplish today," said Barrow.  "We're working with the President to get back to the good old days when we had a balanced budget."

Today's announcement marks the first time the Obama Administration has officially transmitted legislation to Congress, a sign of the President's continued commitment to restoring fiscal responsibility and accountability to government over the long-term.
