Congressman Barrow to Present the Purple Heart to Specialist Danny Segui PDF Print

On Friday, December 5, Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) will present the Purple Heart to Specialist Danny Segui for his extraordinary bravery while serving our country during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

On November 1, 2007, while on a security patrol in western Baghdad, Specialist Segui's vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device.  He suffered shrapnel wounds to his shoulder and face.  After repeated attempts to get a Purple Heart for Specialist Segui, his staff sergeant contacted Congressman Barrow's office.  Barrow's office reached out to the Pentagon and was able to secure a Purple Heart for the soldier.

The Purple Heart was established by General George Washington during the Revolutionary War.  It is the oldest military decoration in the world still presently being awarded, and is given to U.S. military personnel who have been wounded or killed in action

"I'm honored to be able to present the Purple Heart to Specialist Segui," said Barrow.  "He showed immense bravery while fighting for his country in Iraq.  Our men and women in uniform are putting their lives on the line in defense of liberty every day and deserve recognition for their sacrifice."

Friday's medal presentation will take place at 9:30am, and will be held at Fort Stewart in Marne Garden.
