Barrow Attends White House Ceremony Honoring Savannah's Isaiah Davenport House Museum PDF Print

Rose Garden reception recognizes Zelda Tenenbaum and Jamie Credle's work to restore the 1820's era home

Washington, DC - 12th District Congressman John Barrow (D-GA) today attended an award ceremony held at the White House Rose Garden honoring the 2005 Preserve America Presidential Award recipients.  Among this year's four recipients was the Isaiah Davenport House Museum in Savannah.

"It's an honor to be invited to the White House to attend this morning's ceremony," Barrow said.  "The restoration of homes like the Davenport House Museum has been at the heart of Savannah's rebirth and historic preservation.  With over 70,000 visitors each year, the Davenport House is strengthening Savannah's tourism industry by protecting the charm and character of Georgia's first city."

Guests of the President and First Lady, Zelda Tenebaum, President of the Historic Savannah Foundation, and Jamie Credle, Director of the Isaiah Davenport House Museum, were on hand to accept the award.

Coinciding with National Preservation Week, the Preserve America Presidential Awards are presented to four organizations, businesses, government entities, or individuals whose work has helped preserve and protect our nation's cultural or natural heritage assets.  In addition to the Isaiah Davenport House Museum, this year's recipients also included the Restoration of the Mount in Lenox, MA, the Texas Heritage Trails Program, and the Bolduc Historic Properties Operational Enhancement in Sainte Genevieve, MO.
