Barrow Appointed to Transportation Conference Committee PDF Print

Georgia Congressman is given a significant role in helping craft the final version of the surface transportation bill

Washington, DC - 12th District Congressman John Barrow (D-GA) has been appointed to the Transportation Conference Committee, an extraordinary honor for a freshman member of Congress.  The appointment gives Barrow a direct hand in helping craft the final version of the surface transportation bill - which will allocate more than $280 billion in federal transportation funds.

"I'm honored to have the opportunity to serve on this extremely important conference committee," Barrow said.  "It's critical that we get this bill to the President's desk as quickly as possible and I'm looking forward to working with my colleagues in the House and Senate to help craft a bill that can effectively strengthen our nation's transportation infrastructure."

In March of this year, the U.S. House of Representatives approved House Resolution 3, The Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (TEA-LU), which included a total of over $33 million for Georgia's 12th District.  The Senate later passed its own version of the bill. It's now the job of the conference committee to reconcile differences between House and Senate versions.

Once the Conference Committee irons out the differences and the bill receives final approval by both chambers of Congress, it will head to the President's desk for his signature.  Last year, the transportation bill was passed by both chambers, but there was not enough time in the session to reconcile the differences.
