Augusta Fire Department Awarded $120,000 Homeland Security Grant PDF Print

Washington, DC - 12th District Congressman John Barrow (D-GA) announced today that the Augusta Fire Department has been awarded a $120,000 grant from the United States Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFGP).  The grant helps provide for additional training and personal protective equipment.

"Firefighters put their lives in danger every day to protect our community and save lives," Congressman Barrow said.  "We owe it to our firefighters to make sure they have the proper equipment and training to minimize risks and safely perform their jobs."

The AFGP awards grants on a competitive basis to fire departments demonstrating financial need and benefits for the community.  The actual amount of the award is based on the population served.  The Operations and Firefighter Safety Program is administered through the AFGP and provides supplemental funds to promote firefighters' health and safety through training programs, to purchase equipment, and to fund modifications to facilities.
