Athens-Ben Epps Airport Awarded $1,000,000 Transportation Grant PDF Print

Money will help fund airport expansion and runway improvement projects

 

Washington, DC - 12th District Congressman John Barrow (D-Georgia) announced today that Athens-Ben Epps Airport has been awarded a $1,000,000 grant from the Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration.  The money will be used to fund airport expansion and runway improvement projects.   

 

"As Athens continues to grow, it's important that Ben Epps Airport has the funding and resources it needs to keep pace," Barrow said.  "This grant will go a long way to enhance the airport's runway conditions and overall safety." 

 

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the $1,000,000 grant will provide funding for the:

 

·        Rehabilitation of the existing terminal area apron to maintain pavement investment and enhance safety for aircraft operating at the airport.

 

·        Expansion the south terminal apron area to accommodate current aircraft parking demand.

 

·        Preparation for the construction of a new t-hangar taxi lane to accommodate growing aircraft demand at the airport.
