$1,000,000 in New Funding for the Chatham Area Transit Authority Approved in House PDF Print

Money will help support local public transportation services and CATA bus facilities

Washington, DC - 12th District Georgia Congressman John Barrow (D-Savannah) today announced that the U.S. House of Representatives has approved $1,000,000 in new funding for the Chatham Area Transit Authority (CAT).  Requested by Rep. Barrow, the money was included in the FY ‘07 Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Act and will be used to help support CAT bus services and bus facilities.

"As Savannah's economy and population continue to grow, it's important that the area's public bus system has all the resources it needs to keep pace with that growth," Barrow said.  "I've always been a big supporter of reliable and well-run public transit, and I'm excited that the House has agreed to fund this request."

Since taking office in January of 2005, Congressman Barrow has helped secure over $7,000,000 in new funding and grants for CAT.

The FY ‘07 Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Act is now being considered in the Senate.  After the House and Senate both agree on a Conference Report, the bill will go to the President for his approval.
