Baldwin County Fire Department Awarded a $45,000 Homeland Security Grant PDF Print

Washington, DC - 12th District Georgia Congressman John Barrow (D-Savannah) announced today that the Baldwin County Fire Department has been awarded a $45,000 grant from the United States Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFGP). The funding will be used to purchase several self contained breathing apparatuses that will replace older, outdated models.

"These Homeland Security grants were created to help meet the needs of our local fire departments," Barrow said. "When firefighters in Baldwin County put their lives on the line to serve the community, it's vital that they have modern, up-to-date equipment."

To secure a grant, applicants had to demonstrate financial need and outline the benefits of the additional funds. The actual amount of the award was based on the population served. The Operations and Firefighter Safety Program is administered through the AFGP and provides supplemental funds to promote firefighters' health and safety through training programs, to purchase equipment, and to fund modifications to facilities.
