SCHUMER ANNOUNCES OVER $295K DEPT. OF JUSTICE INVESTMENT FOR HISPANIC RESEARCH CENTER; FUNDING WILL IMPROVE RESPONSE TO SEXUAL ASSAULT & VIOLENCE IN HISPANIC COMMUNITY

Today, U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer announced that the Hispanic Resource Center of Larchmont and Mamaroneck will receive a grant totaling $297,000 from the Department of Justice Grants to Enhance Culturally and Linguistically Specific Services for Victims of Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking Program. The Hispanic Resource Center of Larchmont and Mamaroneck (HRC) will continue its Latinos Unidos Contra la Historia de Abuso or Latinos United Against the History of Abuse project (LUCHA project) in partnership with the Westchester Hispanic Coalition. The coalition includes the Westchester Community Opportunity Program, Hope's Door, My Sister's Place, El Centro Hispano, United Community Center of Westchester, and Neighbors Link. Specifically, grant funds will support 6 employees over a two year period. Their work will help up to 50 victims by offering crisis intervention, advocacy, case management, individual counseling, and support groups. They will also offer workforce and leadership development programs and community forums targeting recent Hispanic immigrants.
